NOT JUST A NAME : Born in Montreal, Léa Roback (1903-2000) advocates for better conditions for women workers within the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union. She is a polyglot which helps her promote the interests of French speaking workers. She is considered a pioneer of feminism in Quebec and, in her honor, scholarships from the Léa-Roback Foundation are distributed to financially support women’s studies projects.
